The Power of Names in Tracing European Immigrant Origins – December 17, 2026

Webinar Abstract: Names are the most powerful means of identifying ancestors. Name-based research techniques can supercharge the investigation of European ancestral origins. We describe and demonstrate several of these techniques, leveraging name etymologies and origins, the shape and texture of names, the uniqueness of immigrant-family handprints, the names of potentially related immigrants, and surname-distribution maps. We also highlight genealogy standards that empower each of these techniques.
